
Madelyn Musick
Madelyn Musick is a writer, film photographer, & creative writing instructor living in Somerville, Massachusetts. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing with a focus in poetry from the University of North Carolina - Wilmington, & a BA in English from the University of Minnesota. Madelyn has taught courses in poetry, fiction, creative-nonfiction, and fine arts at the University of North Carolina - Wilmington & now teaches poetry workshops on a variety of poetic forms. Her poems “Pythagoras,” “A Weaker Vessel,” and “Love Capacity” are featured on In Parentheses. Her poem “Blood Orbit” can be found in The Shore. Her poems “Widow Spider” & “What Eats Itself” have been published by Metatron Press as part of their #MicroMeta Instagram series. Her poem “Lonely in Lowry Hill” has been published in Bodega Magazine. Her poem “95th/Dan Ryan” is published in Volume 8. of Poetry City, USA, among others.
Madelyn is featured in the Somerville Times article: Somerville’s Creative Writers on Writing from Place, as well as in the Somerville Arts Council’s online celebration of national poetry month with the poem Illusory Birds. Madelyn’s photography, a series of black-and-white 35mm photographs titled, “Phantasma in Black and White,” has been featured in Fuzz Magazine. Madelyn’s photography has been on exhibit at the Somerville Armory as part of an exhibition by Lumentation in 2024.
Madelyn is teaching two poetry workshops for the 2025 Summer Season in July and August. “Following the Brush: Memoiric Zuihitsu” and “Ekphrastic Poetry: Writing on Self-Artifacts” will be available in-person in Somerville, MA and over Zoom. The class capacity is capped at 8 persons per class to ensure a cozy group. Workshop attendees will be assigned a brief sample of reading material one week before class to wet their feet.
